Too Warm for School?

Well,

I woke up today and Laura said, "you dont have school today!"  Music to my ears.  In Alaska we NEVER get off of school for temperatures that are too cold or even piles of snow.  Nope, we get off of school when it is raining and above freezing outside.  When rain mixes with piles of snow it is never a good thing.  I made the most out of the "free" day.  I was able to call some businesses during hours and was even able to finish up some left over nagging report cards.  We will have to make this day up, but I'll take the four day week!  Thanks Lord for the blessing!  Spending the day with Mason Bear was quite a special treat!

Hello Followers!

Well, Im Back!!

I thought that I would give this thing another try.  I don't think that it will be quite like my wifes blog but that is okay.  It seems that everyone in my family is doing some blogging so I wanted to make sure that I do not miss out on this opportunity for myself!  It has been well over a year since my last post.  We have had our son and he is AWESOME!  To report on my previous post, I did NOT make my goal for the 200, but that is because I am now a CROSSFITTER.

I really like CrossFit for a workout.  If you have been hiding under a rock, check out www.crossfit.com and browse around.  If you think it might be for you, you're right!  I love completing my WOD's and working hard.  I also love that my friends and family are right there working out with me.  Wife wods are the best.  I love seeing her in there working hard and sharing some time with my wife that is both healthy and fun!

Okay, this is the next post.  Hopefully, I will write more sooner than a year from now!
Cheers!

day 2- 200

Okay, today is Day 2 of Today is the day.  At the gym I go to we have a fitness test that we take once a month called the 200.  The 200 is a series of body weight moves completed in 5 circuits without rest for time.  It involves pushups, squats, lunges, and mountain climbers.  When I first started the 200 my time was well above eight minutes.  Today, my time was 4:40.  I was happy with this time; however, a good friend of mine finished in 4:07 (that is a remarkable time, I think the gym record is 3:57).  My next goal is to take 6 seconds off of my time of 4:40.  I have been taking 4 seconds off for the last 2 consecutive months for a total of 8 seconds in two months.

Taking the day by day approach to fitness, I have no choice but to bust my butt during training to reach this goal.  I will need to perform all out for the next four weeks, and hopefully, meet my goal time of 4:34.  I perform these movements without down grading.  When I started 200's I was having to downgrade pushups by the 3rd round.

I will be camping in Seward this weekend.  Hopefully day 3 will lead to an exciting, bear free hike!  Seward is said to have one of Alaska's top ten hikes.  Since I have not really been on a hike in AK I am sure it wil be awesome.

Till Tomorrow- Today is the day, Im on my way! :) (maybe a little cheesy, but it is like a bad jingle to a commercial that you cant get out of your head).

Day 1- June 16, 2011

Day 1 is a relative term.  I have been active my whole life with varying levels of intensity.  I played a lot of sports as a child including: soccer, basketball, backyard football, volleyball, etc.  I would play just about anything as long as someone kept score and someone would play against me!  I was a somewhat successful high school athlete at a smaller than normal size high school.  When I graduated, I played soccer a short time at another smaller than normal size college.  I came to realize I was pretty good at soccer but not great.  To be great is to have some unique, God given pyhsical talent, with an unbelievable amount of determination to train and push oneself to the top (The one exeption would be Rudy Rutiger!!  I could cry just thinking about that movie!).

Once the formal sports playing days ended I got on with a normal life.  I got married, graduated college, got a job, and gained A LOT of weight.  The heaviest that I have ever been is 220lbs.  The lightest I have ever been is 170lbs.  Right now I am somewhere in between.  My wife is an amzing woman!  She is beautiful, smart, charming, and serving the Lord!  She is the reason for this blog.  This blog is about more than fitness!  It is about a Day by Day approach to being healthy, being ready, and being accountable.  We are expecting our first child due in December!  On this blog you will find fitness updates, tricks, workouts, and even some Bible verses.  My fitness plan is a life changing plan!  Today is the day, Im on my way!
